  77. 1.1 About File Manager Toolbar

  80.    FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
  81.    Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups(tm) 3.11.

  83.    Chaosoft Toolbar is an attractive alternative to the native
  84.    Windows toolbar. Fully user- customizable, it provides about
  85.    twice as many buttons, support for MS Tools, handy 'tooltips'
  86.    for novice users (a'la toolbar for Word and Excel).

  119. This is NOT freeware or public domain software.  This is software
  120. which you can "try before you buy".
  121.  
  122. You may install the program in your system and use it for an
  123. evaluation period of up to 14 days. After that time, you are
  124. required to purchase a license for continued use of the software
  125. or else stop using it. You may freely copy and distribute
  126. evaluation copies of FM Toolbar provided that all conditions
  127. specified in the distribution license are satisfied (please see
  128. the license agreement in the VENDINFO.DIZ file.)

  130. What's the difference between Evaluation and Licensed versions?
  131.  
  132. There is NO functional difference between the evaluation and
  133. licensed versions of this software (except for the 'registration
  134. reminders', displayed by the evaluation version).  Actually, it's
  135. the same program: you may convert an evaluation copy to a registered
  136. copy by entering your name and a registration code into the system.
  137. Similarly, a registered copy of the program may be
  138. 'unregistered' by deleting the registration code or by just copying
  139. the program to another machine.

  141. Evaluation copies of our products are 100% fully functional.  We
  142. make them this way so you can have a real look at them to decide
  143. whether or not they fit your needs.  Please understand that if you
  144. fail to register, and continue to use FM Toolbar beyond the eval-
  145. uation period without paying for it, don't expect the program to
  146. maintain its original functionality:  some features may become
  147. disabled.  If you need more time to decide whether you want to
  148. keep the program, we'll give you an opportunity to extend the
  149. evaluation period.  However, we cannot afford to let you use the

  177. How to purchase a license for continued use of FM Toolbar
  178. ---------------------------------------------------------

  180. ChaoSoft licenses the software on the 'per-user', not a
  181. 'per-computer' basis.  This means that you may purchase a single
  182. individual license and use FM Toolbar on more than one computer (for
  183. example, a desktop system and a notebook), provided that you are the
  184. only user of those computers and there is no possibility to use the
  185. Registered Copy by anybody else.
  186.  
  187. On the other hand, if more than one person uses a computer, every
  188. such user must purchase an individual license for continued use of
  189. the software, or a site license for the total number of users
  190. accessing the computer must be obtained.
  191.

  218. Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
  219. stand-alone program; there is no special executable file you would
  220. run to start the FM Toolbar. To use FM Toolbar, all you need is to
  221. properly install it, and it will run automatically every time you
  222. run File Manager.

  224. 2.1. Using Setup utility
  225. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  226. FM Toolbar comes with convenient and flexible SETUP utility. Use
  227. SETUP if you want to temporarily activate/deactivate the software
  228. or install it onto your hard disk or network drive for permament
  229. use.
  230.  
  231. 2.1.1. HOW TO QUICKLY TRY OUT THE SOFTWARE
  232. ------------------------------------------
  233.  
  234. If you obtained FM Toolbar on a diskette or CD-ROM and
  235. want to take a look at the utility without installing it onto
  236. your hard disk, run SETUP.EXE from the FM Toolbar directory on the
  237. diskette or CD-ROM and choose the 'Activate' button when prompted.
  238.  
  239.   - to run SETUP.EXE, choose File | Run from main menu of Program
  240.     Manager or File Manager and type into the 'Run' dialog box:
  241.  
  242.         A:\TOOLBAR\SETUP.EXE
  243.  
  244.     (assuming that the diskette is inserted into the 'A' floppy
  245.     drive)
  246.  
  247. After that, run File Manager. You should see a new item in the
  248. main menu, Toolbar (If there is no such an item, FM Toolbar has
  249. not been activated; see information below in this file for
  250. possible reasons.) Of course, be sure that the diskette or CD with
  251. FM Toolbar is available during the loading of File Manager!
  252.  
  253. Now, if you see that FM Toolbar is not what you need, just run
  254. SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. Your system will
  255. forget all about FM Toolbar!
  256.  
  257. On the other hand, if you want to give the program a longer try
  258. and wish to install it onto your hard disk or network drive,
  259. choose the 'Install' button when SETUP.EXE prompts you. Please see
  260. the next section for more information.
  261.  
  262. 2.1.2. Installing on a hard disk or network drive
  263. -------------------------------------------------
  264.  
  265. If you have already copied all the files from the FM Toolbar
  266. package onto your hard disk (for instance, you have extracted the
  267. files from an archive), run SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Activate'
  268. button.
  269.  
  270. If you don't have the FM Toolbar files on the hard disk, choose
  271. 'Install' button instead. Then, enter the path to the directory
  272. where you want FM Toolbar to be installed. In this case, SETUP.EXE
  273. will copy all the files to the new location and then activate
  274. them. In addition, you will be prompted to create a separate
  275. program group for FM Toolbar. It's not essential to have such a
  276. group, but it may be convenient. In any case, the last word is
  277. yours!

  279. 2.1.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
  280. -----------------------------
  281.  
  282. To prevent File Manager from loading and using FM Toolbar, run
  283. SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. If you decide to
  284. start using FM Toolbar later on, run SETUP.EXE and choose
  285. 'Activate'.
  286.  
  287. Otherwise, to completely remove FM Toolbar from your system,
  288. deactivate it with the SETUP.EXE utility (see above) and remove
  289. all the files from directory on your hard disk or network drive
  290. where you have installed FM Toolbar. In addition, delete program
  291. group 'FMToolbar' from the Program Manager, if your created it
  292. during installation.
  293.  
  294. 2.2. Registering your copy of FM Toolbar
  295. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  296. Sometimes, FM Toolbar displays a registration reminder, and the
  297. "About FM Toolbar" screen reads 'Unregistered copy'. If you have
  298. registered FM Toolbar and obtained your personal Registration Code
  299. from us, you may use it to prevent the registration reminder from
  300. being displayed and enter your name in the 'About FM Toolbar'
  301. screen. Choose 'Register' from the 'Toolbar' submenu of File
  302. Manager and when a dialog box pops up, enter your name (exactly as
  303. it appears in your Registration Acknowledgment) and the
  304. Registration Code.
  305.  
  306. Be sure to enter your name EXACTLY as it's written in the
  307. Registration Acknowledgment, including all the spaces, punctuation,
  308. and entering letters in proper case (upper or lower). If you wish
  309. your name to be spelled differently, please let us know and we'll
  310. assign a new registration code.
  311.  
  312. 2.3. Manual installation/deinstallation
  313. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  314. If the automatic installation fails for any reason, you may install
  315. FM Toolbar manually as follows:
  316.  
  317. 1. Create a directory for FM Toolbar on your hard disk, say
  318.    C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
  319.    installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
  320.    Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
  321.    from it.
  322.  
  323. 2. Close File Manager.
  324.  
  325. 3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
  326.    text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
  327.    your hard disk (or the directory you specified when installing
  328.    Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, *not*
  329.    WIN.INI.
  330.  
  331.    Find the section [AddOns] in this file and enter the following
  332.    string right after the string [AddOns]:
  333.  
  334.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  335.  
  336.    (or specify the directory you copied FM Toolbar's files into,
  337.    if other than TOOLBAR).
  338.  
  339.    The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
  340.    this:
  341.  
  342.         ...
  343.         [AddOns]
  344.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  345.         ...
  346.  
  347.    (... means other lines of the file). Save the file.
  348.  
  349. 4. Run File Manager.
  350.  
  351. If the installation has been completed successfully, you should
  352. see a new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the File
  353. Manager's main menu. If you cannot see the Toolbar item in the
  354. main menu of File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify
  355. that you have done all the steps above, and, in particular, have
  356. specified the correct path in the [AddOns] section of the
  357. WINFILE.INI file. Also, make sure that the files have not been
  358. corrupted when they were copied onto your hard disk (Each file
  359. should be the same size as each file on the installation diskette)
  360.  
  361. To manually uninstall FM Toolbar:
  362.  
  363. 1. Close File Manager and remove the line 'FM Toolbar=...' from
  364.    the WINFILE.INI file (using Notepad, for example). After that,
  365.    when you restart File Manager, FM Toolbar will not be loaded.
  366.    If you decide later to start using FM Toolbar again, type the
  367.    string 'FM Toolbar=...', specifying the complete DOS path to
  368.    the FMTB.DLL file, in the [AddOn] section of the WINFILE.INI
  369.    file.
  370.  
  371. The following steps should be completed only if you wish to
  372. remove the FM Toolbar from your system permanently:
  373.  
  374. 2. Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk where
  375.    you installed FM Toolbar;
  376.  
  377. 3. Delete program group 'FMToolbar' in the Program Manager window,
  378.    if there is one.
  379.
